Aeronautic, energy, oil&gas: capabilities

NCM’s core business is represented by the vertical supply of components and assemblies, including special processes and functional tests performed in compliance with the strictest international standards.

Sectors

NCM supplies technologies for production of turbomachinery components counting on a high qualification in the aeronautic and energy industries, with a constant orientation to excellence and technical innovation.

In the aeronautic industry, we are active in the business of engines and structural parts for civil and military fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts. We are always present to the most important international programs as direct partners of the main OEMs.

We manufacture gas turbine parts, especially combustion components, such as fuel injection systems, combustion chambers and stator components of the various turbine stages.

Processes

We have a team of engineers specialized in industrialization of production of complex components and assemblies. Our team can advise and support Customers in choosing the most effective and efficient production methods and technologies, starting from the preliminary design and prototyping, up to the production phase. For this purpose, we use advanced CAD-CAM Software Systems, such as latest release CATIA, NX and PTC CREO.

We offer a wide range of mechanical processes, performed using latest generation CNC machines, organized in dedicated production cells and/or connected via FMS systems, to increase our degree of efficiency, flexibility and competitiveness.
We routinely carry out continuous turning and milling up to five axes and external and internal grinding of steel, superalloys, light alloys, titanium alloys and others, on products of small, medium and medium-large dimensions (up to 5 m).
We also have a department for the cold deformation of sheet metal parts.

To support the production process, we can carry out machining using sinker and wire EDM, thus guaranteeing the creation of geometries that are difficult to obtain using conventional chip removal methods.
We also have five-axis EDM drilling machines for carrying out deep micro-drilling on complex surfaces.

We are able to carry out 5-axis laser cutting and drilling on sheet metal up to 10 mm thic.

The parts we produce are subjected to accurate dimensional checks, performed by qualified operators, who can make use of a wide range of control tools including CMMs and optical scanning equipment.
We also have a laboratory capable of carrying out metallurgical analyses, tensile strength tests, Brinell (ASTM E10) and Rockwell (ASTM E18) hardness tests and Vickers microhardness checks (ASTM E384).

We carry out inspections with traditional and fluorescent water-washable and post-emulsifiable penetrant liquids, magnetic inspections, ultrasonic contact and immersion tests, radiographic checks on film and tomography (TAC), boroscopic checks in compliance with the main international standards.
Our staff is certified level II according to the EN 4179/NAS 410 standard.
We also have the following industrial qualifications: SNT-TC-1A / ISO 9712 for FPI, UT, RT, VT.
The FPI and RT processes have been NADCAP accredited since 2015 and 2018, respectively.
Our responsible third level, EN 4179/NAS410/ ITANDTB/ SNT-TC-1A certified, is NADCAP auditor and is approved by major Primes, including Boeing, Airbus, Leonardo, GE Avio, Pratt&Whitney, Safran Engine.

We internally dispose of manual, semi-automatic and automatic TIG welding stations in which qualified personnel operate according to ASME Section IX.
We can boast highly automated electron beam welding systems (EBW), equipped with a high vacuum welding chamber and a high voltage EB generator (150 KV). We are able to weld flat and circular (1G) joints on steels, superalloys, light alloys and titanium alloys. We are able to perform visual, metallographic and magnetoscopic checks of the welds and checks of the Vickers microhardness (ASTM E384) through the fused zone, of the ZTA and of the base material.
The EB welding process has been NADCAP accredited since 2011. Welding operators are qualified according to the requirements of the AWS D17.1 standard.
We are also able to perform circular and longitudinal welding, resistance welding, laser welding and plasma welding.

We are equipped with high vacuum electric furnaces with horizontal loading and pressurized extinguishing of the charge (Argon/Nitrogen). We carry out brazing heat treatments with BNi, BAu and BAg brazing agents, annealing and precipitation of Nickel-based and Cobalt-based superalloys and PH steels, quenching and tempering of martensitic stainless steels (AISI 400), stress relieving and annealing of austenitic stainless steels (AISI 300), distension of titanium alloys.
We are able to perform visual and metallographic checks of the brazing, Brinell (ASTM E10) and Rockwell (ASTM E18) hardness tests on the treated materials.
The heat treatment and brazing processes have been NADCAP accredited since 2016.
Pyrometry is performed in-house according to the requirements of the AMS 2750 standard.

We dispose of automated Multicoat systems for carrying out APS (Air Plasma Spray) and HVOF (High Velocity Oxy Fuel) coating processes.
We are able to apply hard coatings of metallic materials, cermets or ceramics, thermal barriers (TBC) and abradable coatings on numerous types of base materials, including alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel-based and cobalt-based superalloys.
We perform visual and dimensional checks of the coated parts, bending tests and coating adhesion tests (ASTM C633), metallographic examinations of the coating structure and Vickers microhardness tests (ASTM E384).
The coating process has been NADCAP accredited since 2014.

We carry out high precision flow tests, from low to high pressures, using air benches both in discharge and in emission, liquid discharge benches that also allow the measurement of the spray angle and oil benches for high pressure tests and temperature.

Among the innovative processes NCM has invested in, we also find Additive Manufacturing, in order to provide our customers with alternative production solutions. We combine laser deposition and sintering methods such as 3D printing together with technologies that make use of the combination of traditional chip removal methods. Additive Manufacturing is an effective and efficient process that allows to gain competitive advantages.
We make parts in Cobalt-Chrome, Inconel 718, Hastelloy X, Titanium 6Al4V, 6Al4V-eli and Steel 316L with DMLS technology.

According to the procedures defined by the Customers, we carry out manual assembly of complex sub-systems ready for direct installation in the final assemblies.

We carry out preliminary mapping and quote for the maintenance, overhaul and restoration service of assemblies and components for the energy and Oil & Gas sector.
