T4T – Technology for Turbomachinery is NCM’s new column. It aims to share information and curiosities about the technologies we use.

Technology for turbomachinery is the most representative definition of the company’s activity. NCM is a Center of Technological Excellence for components of turbomachinery, designed by our Customers to be innovative and always up to date.

The first technology we are going to discover is TIG Welding, which is the subject of NCM’s latest Nadcap accreditation, that grants the manufacturing quality of companies operating in the aerospace and defense sectors.

TIG WELDING PROCESS

TIG Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas, consists of an electrical circuit closed between material and tungsten infusible electrode, generates useful heat to fuse materials together. An inert gas escaping from the nozzle is necessary to protect the electric arc and molten material.

TIG Welding is typically used to weld thin metal materials but also for greater thicknesses with the help of filler material.

Application fields:

Curiosity:

This welding technique was developed during World War II for the aircraft industry.
